It’s Wednesday, my favorite day of the YouTube Nation week because, today, I get to spread a buttload of love to the lovely ladies who have changed YouTube for the better. And who do I think deserves the coveted spot of #WCW this week? Why it’s everyone’s favorite booze cruise captain, Mamrie Hart!
Known as part of YouTube’s holy trinity, along with best friends Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart, mamrie began her YouTube show You Deserve a Drink in March 2011. On her show, Mamrie blends her love of comedy with years of professional bartending experience to help cure the woes of famous celebrities and YouTube friends alike. She’s the infamous creator behind the Tom Cruise Booze Cruise, the New Orleans Sex on the Swamp with Tyler Oakley, and the Chris Martin’s Sad Apple. When Grace Helbig ended her popular show Daily Grace to start her own channel, Mamrie concocted an It’s Grace Leave of Absinthe for her dear friend, proving herself to be the best friend the internet has ever seen.
At the end of each show, Mamrie instructs her audience to go back, rewatch the video, and drink every time she makes a terrible pun — or sexual jokes if you’re feeling brave. Trust me, even Lil Bub was looking a little shmammered after her time on the show, and we all know that cat can drink!
This year has been Mamrie’s year. She appeared in her first feature film, “Camp Takota,” began hosting two popular YouTube shows, “Picture Day” and “Hey USA,” signed a book deal, and just announced that she, Helbig, and Hart are going back on tour this fall. Seriously, someone give this lady a drink!
Watching YouTube all day for work, I rarely seek out videos in my spare time. But when it comes to Mamrie, I’d gladly spend evenings binge watching her channel. I’ve seen every episode of her show and find myself laughing as hard today as the first time I watched her videos. Meeting her in person, she’s just as brilliant, sassy, and charming as she comes across on camera. She always has a comeback ready, isn’t afraid to say the thing we’re all thinking, and truly doesn’t give a rat’s ass what people think of her. In total, she’s fabulous.
Mamrie, thank you for expanding our previously conservative definition of happy hour and teaching us to keep it classy when the dance floor is calling. If Mametown ever becomes a real place and you become mayor, you better bet your bottom dollar I’ll see you there. Cheers to you, lovely lady.
Carly Lanning is a YouTube Nation curator and after publishing this piece, figures she’ll start happy hour sooner than later. Keep it classy kids.
